GP Career Start Scheme

GP Career Start Scheme

NHS North Durham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is launching a scheme to attract GPs from across the UK to work in the area. The scheme is run in conjunction with NHS Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield CCG.

The GP ‘Career Start’ scheme invites applicants to apply from across the UK salaried GP posts, based in practices across North Durham. The successful applicants will receive two year’s funding from the CCG.

The GPs will receive mentorship as well as help to focus on their clinical and personal development and the opportunity to take part in a range of educational activities.

If you are interested in joining the scheme please refer to  Durham Career Start Scheme and our GP Career Start Scheme brochure to identify which practices fit best with the number of sessions, and the type of job which suits you best. Please read the practice profiles and contact the individual practice(s) to arrange to discuss/visit/interview.

If you have any queries you can email Dr Jonathan Smith at (DDES) or Dr Patrick Ojechi, (North Durham)

Durham is a fantastic place to live and work and NDCCG are aiming to establish opportunities for a career in general practice by offering a number of career start posts in some of our best practices in the CCG. You will receive protected development time and mentoring as part of the scheme and work in innovative forward thinking practices.

The scheme will run for two years with the hope GP’s will continue into permanent Gp roles in NDCCG. This scheme has the full support of the CCG as do the practices in North Durham and I look forward to welcoming you to North Durham.

Dr Neil O’Brien, Chief Clinical Officer, NHS North Durham CCG

We are delighted to be hosting our first GP Career Start Scheme for GPs in the North Durham area. We have 10 salaried GP posts available, which will be hosted within individual practices across our CCG area.

For the first two years, North Durham CCG will fund the posts to enable each GP to be released from practice to focus on their clinical and personal development. You will also be supported to attend additional educational activities and receive mentorship.

Good luck with your application.

Dr Patrick Ojechi, Director or Primary Care, NHS North Durham CCG
