North Durham colleagues become Dementia Friends

Part of the Prime Ministers Challenge 2020 aims to make England, by 2020, the best country in the world for dementia care, support, research and awareness. By 2020, England should be the best place for people with dementia, their carers and families to live and the best place in the world to undertake research into dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.

What is a Dementia Friend?

One of the focuses is on creating dementia-friendly health and care settings, organisations and communities.  By being a dementia friend it enable you to learn a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways we can help.

There are 2.3 million dementia friends in the UK and this is increasing everyday. North Durham Colleagues are pleased to be Dementia Friends Champions and are taking action to help support their loved ones and their communities by better understanding of the personal impact of dementia and how they can ensure that people with dementia feel understood, valued and able to contribute to their community.
